The Sunday Archive: Handwritten "Don't Bite the Sun" Manuscript
A few of Tanith Lee's handwritten pages, notes, and doodles on her "Don't Bite the Sun" manuscript, from the archive
Happy Sunday!
Today, we are bringing you some of Tanith Lee’s handwritten notes and doodles from the manuscript of her 1976 novel Don’t Bite the Sun.
Last July, with the help of an avid Tanith Lee fan and Storyteller supporter (thank you again, Jeremy!), our editor Julie obtained the PDFs from The Cushing Library Science Fiction & Fantasy Research Collection at Texas A&M. As Julie wrote then,
They include some very hard to read pages from the book and her doodles, along with Tanith's notes to the typist and notes she added before sending the manuscript to the library in 2014.
This first document is the title page of Don't Bite the Sun and the notes to the typist that followed.
This second one contains two more pages of Tanith's Biting the Sun manuscript, including a doodle of a Tigaphant and what might be an attempt to decide on the final spelling of certain names.
If any of you would like to see the PDF version, let us know in the comments and we will send them your way!
Update: Because Substack doesn’t allow users to share PDFs in DMs, here’s the PDFs for anyone to access!
Have a wonderful week, and we will see you in your inbox for Spotlight on a Storyteller this Wednesday.

Thank you for attaching the PDFs, it feels like quite a privilege to be able to read these pages!
Thanks, Julie!
